Having come back from a weekend away and had a chance to sit down and think,
here's some revived links:
Firstly, there's the official site, www.irishblink.com. Always a good thing.
Secondly, Irish Music Central which looks more like a traditional archive type site (and certainly more complete than mine!).
Finally, I've cleared up the old links on this page - its a shame how links change so much over the years... I'll put up thoughts on the new album when I get it!
27 August 2004
Been a very long time since I updated things here! Anyway... there is a
new album out soon! "Deep Inside the Sound of Sadness", to be released
3rd September 2004, although I dont know more details... yet!
15th October, 1999
Thanks to all those who've been sending me emails about the band :)
Blink have been around the US a lot recently, I've had a lot of people say
they've seen them around New York and on the college circuit. They have recently
returned to Ireland and have been to Dublin's
FM104 and Today FM recently (got photo'd in the FM104 studio too :)
They're at Tower Records (I assume in Dublin)
this evening (6pm) - although I got that news too late i think :)
Got The End is High at looong last!!!
First impressions were suprisingly bad. I would still say that "I would you
kill for love", which is the second track, is the worst track on the CD
(although thats possibly not a generally held opinion - I've just read the
mini-review at the bottom of the page again!). That being said, the album
really has grown on me and I'm more worried now that I'll overplay it and go
off some tracks. I especially liked "The Raven", but I've been listening for a
day or so now and other tracks begin to stand out like "Sky Land Scraper Paper
Fly" and even "A Planet Made of Rain" which I wasn't too impressed with
originally. Some wonderfully atmospheric music, with some wonderful harmonies
and really rich sound. I certainly enjoy the sound of this album - which is
slightly odd for me for I'm very much a lyrics person (and I've not really
been able to work out many lyrics as yet... I really don't understand several
of the songs. (not the least Sky Land Scraper Paper Fly - that's a really
weird track :)
Anyway, thats some brief thoughts. I really should give a bit more of an explaination as to why I like what I like but I don't think I can really - If I was a music reviewer perhaps I could :) Incidentally, if anyone wants their thoughts put here I would be happy to do so
There is a review for The End is High on electronicmusic.com, which makes it sound quite favourable (and I'm not really into electronic music :).
Blink are (or at least were!) (in no order):
Dermot Lambert - guitars and vocals
Brian McLoughlin - bass, vocals
Barry Campbell - drums, precussion, vocals
Robbie Sexton - vocals, guitar, triangle and keyboards
I do have some of the lyrics to some of their singles, and the odd track from an album, on the lyrics page.
